February Kilauea Updates

The lava is still entering the ocean and generating a steam plume over two miles from the end of Chain of Craters road. In order to see a steam plume, or an oceanside glow near the plume you will need to hike out several hundred yards over old lava. You are still not allowed to hike out any closer than that. It appears there is not much of a hillside glow anymore - maybe small breakouts here and there but that's it. The lava must be traveling in lava tubes to the ocean these days.

If you drive to the end of Chain of Craters road after dark, be sure to bring flashlights. The only light for miles around is moonlight and lava glow. Remember at any time there won't be any facilities down there. It's a 45 minute drive each way and there is no water or food once you get there.
